This group includes all industrially manufactured food products for human consumption, such as probiotic beverages, bottled water, tea-based drinks, chips, juices, and more. Food and beverages in their natural state, whether packaged or not, are not subject to registration.
DIGESA (Dirección General de Salud Ambiental) is our food and beverage market regulator, and also grants import, marketing, and distribution authorizations for these products. Registrations are valid for 5 years and can not be renewed. Please note that dietary (nutritional) supplements, herbal products, seafood, and non-processed foods are not regulated by DIGESA.
Manufacturers may group different products before submitting a registration application. A group of products may be grouped if they share the same ingredients, flavorings, and additives, qualitatively speaking.
Food and beverages containing vitamins and minerals must comply with recommendations established on the recommended dietary allowances and adequate intakes on Dietary Reference Intakes (DIRs) tables published by the US Food and Nutrition Board, Institute of Medicine, National Academies.
Manufacturers must take into account the nutrient reference values and state detailed nutritional information on their products labels
