Seven months after the Executive presented a bill to legalize the medical use of marijuana, this afternoon the initiative was unanimously approved in the National Defense, Internal Order, Alternative Development and Anti-Drug Commission of the Congress of the Republic.
Bill 982/2016-PE authorizes the production, importation, commercialization and safe and informed use exclusively for medicinal purposes of products derived from Cannabis. The next step will be the debate in the Congress Plenary.
Last week, the aforementioned commission included the authorization of crops monitored by the State by pharmaceutical chemical laboratories and legal entities.
“It would be an associative crop. Legal persons that would be formed for the exclusive accomplishment of this activity with all the control and vigilance of the state “, explained the congressman Alberto De Belaunde during the debate in the commission.
Javier Velásquez Quesquén, president of the Congressional National Defense Commission, added that the new version of the bill has three “locks” to ensure that the legalization of medical marijuana has no different uses.
It is estimated that it will benefit patients with cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, among other serious diseases in Perú.
