Peru received the “2017 APEC SME Business Ethics Lighthouse Award” for its dedication to promoting ethics in the pharmaceutical sector

Peru received the “2017 APEC SME Business Ethics Lighthouse Award” for its dedication to promoting ethics in the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors, which has enabled it to serve as a model and support for the other APEC economies that wish to develop their frameworks based on the prevention, care and restoration of people’s health.

This distinction was received through the staff of the Dirección General de Medicamentos, Insumos y Drogas (Digemid), in Hanoi-Vietnam on September 8, during the Business Ethics Forum for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises – APEC 2017.

Digemid’s General Director, Vicky Flores, explained that the Peruvian consensus framework was signed between 21 institutions (state, private sector and civil society) for multisectoral ethical collaboration, strengthen trust and facilitate communication, promote development and convergence of the codes of ethics of the members. It was presented during the Business Ethics Forum for Small and Medium Enterprises – APEC 2016.

The application of ethical criteria creates a predictable business environment throughout the region and facilitates regional trade and patient access to advanced medical technologies. It also helps build the necessary trust in the long-term relationships that are needed to drive and grow business.

In this meeting in Vietnam, Digemid’s leadership was also recognized as a facilitator and driver during the process of drafting and subscribing to the agreed framework, a task that continues with the support of all the institutions that signed it.
